Finally, the answer to all your Greyhound questions…
“Living With A Greyhound: What Most People Won’t
Tell You About Owning A Greyhound -
But Every Greyhound Owner Should Know...
Discover, Risk-Free, The Greyhound Training Secrets That Will
Make Your Greyhound Happy, Happy, And Obedient In Just 27 days.”
Your advice and recommendations have been brilliant...
“When I decided it was time to introduce a dog to our family life I was really keen to give a good home to a rescue dog and after doing a bit of quick research decided to go for a Greyhound. I didn’t want a small, yappy dog – I wanted a calm, well-mannered dog and, even better, I had read that Greyhounds didn’t require a lot of exercise. It seemed like the perfect solution!
What a shock then when Spartacus came to live with us. He was completely un-housetrained (and didn’t seem bothered to learn), would cower away from my husband whenever he was near him and caused some nasty puncture wounds on my 9 year old daughter’s arm while she was playing in the yard. However, I was determined that Spartacus was not going to go back to a rescue center and so I did some research on the internet and, thankfully, found ‘Greyhound Savvy’. Your advice and recommendations have been brilliant and Spartacus is making amazing progress towards being the perfect family pet. Thank you!”

Dear Greyhound Lover
How would you like the perfect Greyhound – well-behaved and happy - in just 27 days? A Greyhound that really listens to what you want, respects you and is a joy to own?
And wouldn’t you feel great if you could achieve this in a way that is totally risk-free, stress-free and fun for both you and your dog – and takes just two 10 minute sessions a day of your time?
If so, I know you’ll find this letter to be extremely valuable because what I’m about to tell you will blast away many common misconceptions about this special breed and reveal the astonishing truth: namely, that there is a right way and a wrong way to getting the best from, and for, your Greyhound.
Perfect family pet or stubborn, uncontrollable predator?
Hi, my name’s Louise Campbell. I’m not a professional dog trainer or anything fancy but I am mad about Greyhounds and share my life with Mia, a beautiful black bitch.
If you’re anything like me, I’m guessing that what attracted you to Greyhounds in the first place was a combination of two things: first that Greyhounds are just amazingly graceful looking dogs and second the commonly shared view that – with their quiet and gentle nature – Greyhounds make the perfect family pet.
For me, this amazing combination made the question as to whether to get my own Greyhound a no-brainer. But, as I soon found out, all is not quite as it seems…
Okay, there’s no doubting that Greyhounds are gorgeous dogs: with their big brown eyes, silky smooth coat and graceful build…Who can resist? But what you may not realize is that even non-racing Greyhounds have distinct behavior patterns hard-wired into their brains that make them very different from any other dog.
Or, to put it another way...
If you fail to understand what makes your Greyhound tick, you’ll be tearing your hair out with frustration.
I know, because I found out the hard way.
Allow me to go back to the beginning…
I first brought Mia home when she was 12 weeks old. She came from a litter that had been bred for racing but she just didn’t make the grade. In other words (as the breeder described her to me) she was the ‘runt’ of the litter. Runt she may have been but I thought she was adorable and so she came to live with me.
I’d always had dogs in the family as a child (although never a Greyhound) and I applied exactly the same training methods to Mia that I remembered my parents using with our family dogs.
An all-too-common problem
Imagine my shock and frustration when, far from becoming the delightful, happy and well-behaved pet I’d always longed for, Mia became stubborn, destructive and, increasingly, just plain naughty.
In the first 6 months alone, she:
- Urinated (and worse) all over my floors on pretty much a daily basis (I’ve since learned that greyhounds are a particularly difficult breed to house train – especially ex-racers who may have spent their racing lives outdoors or locked up in a kennel.)
- Chewed her way through 2 TV remote controls, one cell phone, one pair of slippers and two dog beds
- Chased after my neighbor’s cat whenever it ventured into our yard and, on one occasion, causing the cat a serious leg wound that required a course of expensive antibiotics
- Was completely unreliable off the leash, frequently running away and refusing to come back
- Constantly chased after my children, jumping up at them, mouthing them and generally being a nuisance and couldn’t be trusted to be around my kids’ friends
- Backed away from any approaches made by visitors to the house and displayed a very threatening posture – making my guests feel uncomfortable
- Stole food from the kitchen table when no one was looking
- Became quite aggressive towards us, growling and baring her teeth, when we tried to get her off our beds or the couch
- Became very aggressive towards other dogs that we had to walk past
Sound familiar? If you’re already a Greyhound owner, I’m prepared to bet my bottom dollar that by now you’re beginning to mutter “Tell me about it!” because what I know now, is that all of these behaviors are very common in Greyhounds.
If you’re not yet a Greyhound owner, you might find Mia’s list of escapades quite amusing but, I can tell you, I was at my wit’s end. Mia was making my life a misery and I felt I couldn’t trust her with anything. I knew something had to be done.
I started by looking in almost all the corner bookstores around. I found many books authored by so-called ‘dog experts’, bought them happily and started reading. But when I applied the tips given, many of them just didn’t seem to work.
Most of the books I read didn’t work…because they were dog books, NOT Greyhound books
I quickly came to the conclusion that either Mia was a doggy freak or these so-called dog experts couldn’t possibly have ever had a Greyhound of their own. And desperate though I was, I wasn’t ready to give up on Mia yet so I chose to start the long process of trying to find out more about Greyhounds, and here’s what I did:
- Over the course of a few months I tracked down and communicated with 247 Greyhound lovers around the World, using internet forums and chat rooms to get their input and learn from their experiences
- I spent many evenings in front of my computer searching for and reading every article I could find about Greyhounds
- I spent time with a professional dog trainer who had specific experience of training Greyhounds and was able to give me the low-down on Greyhound behavior problems and how to cure them and also simple but effective methods to specifically train Greyhounds to sit, stay, lay down, come and more, and
- I spoke to my vet who has 2 Greyhounds and local veterinarian training hospital who gave me great advice on keeping a Greyhound healthy and how to prevent and cure common (and less common Greyhound illnesses and diseases.
It was hard work, but boy was it worth it – and what an eye-opener!
I quickly found out from many other Greyhound owners that I wasn’t alone
with my frustrations, which was a huge relief to me – and them.
I now have close control of Mikey...
“Walking Mikey off leash was completely stressful and he quite often came back to us (some time later) with a rabbit or a squirrel in his jaws. I feared it was only a matter of time before he attacked a small dog so that’s when I took action and got ‘Greyhound Savvy’. I now have close control of Mikey is a lot more reliable at listening to my commands.”

And what I discovered from the dog trainers was a real surprise. You see, it turns out Greyhounds aren’t always the easy option so many of us are led to believe. What I hadn’t realized is that Greyhounds have distinct behavior patterns and that if these aren’t acknowledged, taken into account and dealt with in the right way, a Greyhound can quickly become a stubborn, dangerous and uncontrollable pet. I had been doing it all wrong – and I can’t tell you how guilty I felt.
The good news is that through my research, I also discovered that there is a simple, effective and kind way of communicating with and training your Greyhound that taps into the way their minds work and has them desperate to please you. The results are phenomenal and I was amazed: after only 6 days of consistently applying the knowledge I had learned, Mia was already becoming a different dog. She was so much happier and calmer and really listened to what I asked of her. Two months later and she was the happy, well-behaved and fun dog I had always dreamed of. I was so happy.
I knew then that I had to share the information I had learned with as many Greyhound lovers as possible so that these beautiful dogs and their owners wouldn’t have to go through the same stresses that Mia and I did. And so I wrote:

“Jasper was such a quiet, gentle soul at home but as soon as we went out of the house he became a completely different dog. We couldn’t walk past any other dog without Jasper making a big scene and really sounding quite frightening. Other dog owners were (understandably) giving me really dirty looks or making comment. What I didn’t realize is that this behavior stemmed from the fact that actually Jasper was really frightened. Thankfully you have shown me how to make Jasper more confident and his life (and mine) is so much happier...”

The way I see it, I want as many people as possible to learn the kind and fun way to living happily with their Greyhounds. Greyhounds are such special dogs and it breaks my heart to hear stories from people who have become so frustrated and desperate that they’ve had their Greyhound re-homed.
I want all Greyhound owners to understand how their dog’s mind works - that there is a right way and a wrong way to looking after these beautiful dogs – so that fewer Greyhounds fall off the rails and so that all owners can experience the same pleasure and joy that I have experienced with my own dog.
With that in mind, it’s important to me that this guide is affordable for everyone. So I’m making no apologies for not offering any gimmicky discounts; the price you see is the price you pay…
