In America, Lure Coursing is sanctioned by the American Sight Hound Field Association. You can read all about it on their website http://www.asfa.org/index.htm . Only sight hounds are allowed to compete in officially sanctioned meets, but some local groups will let non-sighthounds come and play at training sessions.
It is incorrect that greyhounds are ‘feared’ by competitors. Lure coursing is dominated by whippets who’s top speed on a straightaway is a bit slower than greys but who can turn on a dime.
Lure coursing is a blast, but it’s for sighthounds. No other breed could keep up to them, not do they have the drive to race. In fact, some lure coursing clubs aren’t too happy if the greyhounds show up because they’re going to win!
Ditto to Greyt-mom’s information and helpful link. Lol, about Whippets and ‘turning on a dime’…so true. You can’t help but be in awe over their speed and agility. Amazing!
It is called Lure Coursing. I don’t know much about it, except I know it’s for sighthounds, and I’ve read where people who have ex-racing greyhounds do this. Try Googleing Lure Coursing.
