My fiance and I just adopted a 1 year old Italian Greyhound who is not potty trained! I need some advice on training this dog. We have 2 1/2 year old Italian Greyhound and I had no problems training him. I’m just unsure about how to go about it. I just keep priasing him and rewarding him with treats when he does the right thing. He hasn’t peed in the house yet, but he’s pooped 3 times (we’ve only had him a day). Another problem is that we live in NY and it’s been FREEZING lately! Please help!!

First, the dog should never have the opportunity to pee or poop in the house. This means he should be constantly supervised, unless he’s outside going potty or somewhere like his crate.
Pooping is a very distinct behavior, so if you see him start to crouch, clap or say “Hey!” loudly to interuppt him. Then immediately carry or lead him to the place where he should be doing it. When he finishes, give him a treat and praise. If you catch him too late, pick up the mess and put it outside where you want him to go – that often helps trigger the “Ohhhh….THIS is where I should do it!” moment in their mind.

The biggest thing is patience, patience, patience, and never giving him the chance to make a mistake!
Since you had success with the first I would revert to the latter.
