I have 4 horses, 2 other dogs (a almost 2yr old Papillon, & a 8yr old Sheltie), & 4 cats (2 inside; 2 outside). All my pets get along with dogs.needs to be a g It ood traveler, and put up with being taken places including horse shows. I’d like it to be fairly small under 20 lbs but the smaller probably the better. No fenced in yard, but I do have about 6 acres. I have raised a litter of Shelties which are the easiest to train and also trained my Papillon with a short attention span! Also please dont say depends on the dog, I know that.
I was considering these breeds-
Affenpinscher
Cairn Terrier (but r they ok w/ cats? I heard not)
Coton de Tulear
Italian Greyhound
Miniture Pinscher
Norfolk Terrier
Norwich Terrier
Silky Terrier aka Australian Silky Terrier
Toy Fox Terrier
Rat Terrier (the smaller type)
Toy American Eskimo
& Podengo Portugueso Pequeno or Portuguesse Hound, but these are pretty rare
I would also luv to hear about other breeds too!

italian greyhounds are really good travalers. I have a yorkie and it is an even better travaler. It doesn’t eat, drink, or poop much and most hotels allow them.
Are you even SURE you want a terrier? Terriers have a tenancy to dig, make noise, run away, chase small animals and kill them, etc. etc. etc.
Take a breed quiz: http://www.dogbreedinfocenter.com/search…
It is imperative to have a fenced-in yard. Dogs WILL run away, especially your the ones in your list. If you don’t want one that will run away, then get one that will be inside of the house at all times.
Have you ever considered a Pug? They are great companions, get along with everything from kids to other animals, and have a heart of gold!! Two downsides I will warn you about… they are stubborn, and they shed… A LOT…
) Good luck with your decision…
other than that, they are the best little dogs in the world!! I never considered having one, but my fiance wanted one. She changed our lives so drastically, now we have two!! I don’t think I would want anything else!!!
Those are all VERY different breeds.
Get one that fits YOUR lifestyle.:0)
Try the breed selector quiz and see what breed(s) show up that are right for you. http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto…
i had an ex who had a wire haired fox terrier that was the sweetest dog.
i would suggest a Boston terrier
I like the Portugese Hound the best
I think a Shipperke would suit you well>http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&rl…
They are go-getters, love to be with their owners, and yet independent enough to entertain themselves. My friends always have shipperkes, and they travel to art shows around the nation.. They are less apt to stray from an unfenced yard than many of those breeds that you listed..AND they are fairly uncommon.
Here is a little more about them:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schipperke
They get up to 20 pounds.
However, if you visit your local shelter first..you might just find the dog of your dreams! My little rescued mixed breed, fits all of your needs. She is awesome! ( looks just like a smaller Benji)
If you’re willing to be persistent with training as you seem to be a Jack Russell Terrier might be good. My JRT Mix lives with five cats and is fine with them, he’s good with dogs and I’m sure he’d be fine with horses. The thing with the JRT’s are that they do bark alot and are very hyper, but I’m sure your other two dogs are too. I think the Rat Terrier would also be good as they are kinda like the Jack Russell, to my knowledge anyway.
