How Much Do These Dogs Cost?

I want another dog! all we own are border collies that are big time agillity dogs and most of the time they are training so this leave no “mans best friend” quailty time so this christmas i am asking for a small dog but my parents cant afford a couple thousand dollar dog and the dog i get for xmas is not going to do shows or agility cuz i know dogs that are bred for this cost more i just want a dog that will be my friend and loyal to me

Adoption fees are not expensive

they do not coast more. i say if you buy any puppies for under a grand its not Worth a dime. good breeders pup the coast of the puppies high because it is expensive to tack care of them. back yard breeders will sale any of these dogs for about 4or 5 hundred cus they out them in cages and do not give them proper prenatal care it tacks a lot of time and money to breed Good quality puppie start talking to breeders and go to the breeders home and see what kind of care the dogs they have are getting

well either way dogs do cost a lot of money and u did say dogs so my guess is that u already have a lot of dogs be sure that u aren’t going over the allowed amount of animals u’re allowed to own in ur state. and maybe u should consider rescuing a dog it’s a lot better that way and they’re actually kind of cheaper. all of the prices i listed below do not include shots, vet visits, or food toys ect. and most of these that u could buy come from my guess is byb or puppy mills bad choice of a dog. prices may vary in different areas these are juss the average prices.

Papillon= $400-1400 (these are expensive!)
Italian Greyhound= $300-850

Pomeranian= $200-1000 (ehh they can b mean)

If you simply want a loyal companion, a shelter or dog rescue is the best way to go. Not only will you be getting a great friend, but saving a puppy or dog’s life!!
If the shelter is just not for you, then make sure you go to a reputable breeder. Petstores and BYB’s are irresponsible and sell puppies at high prices with no regard for the puppies well being. The prices of all of these pups could range from a small adoption fee at a shelter, several hundred dollars at a reputable breeder, or over a thousand at a pet store or from a byb. You just need to find shelters and responsible breeders in your area and do your research on prices from there. Remember though, the purchase of the puppy itself is much cheaper than the yearly price of owning a dog. Good luck!
what it costs to own a dog. Most pet owners calculate the price of the food and add it to the cost of the dog and figure that they can afford it regardless of their budget. The reality is that very few people have any idea how much owning a dog really costs and grossly underestimate it.
Why does it matter what it costs to own a dog? After all, we love our pets and we would not put a price on their health and happiness. The hard facts are that the cost of owning a dog is an extremely important consideration for a number of often overlooked reasons. The first concerns the purchase price of the dog. Many people balk at paying $500 to $1000 for a dog. They rationalize that they simply can not afford it and settle for a poorly bred $150 puppy instead. What a huge mistake. The cost of a guaranteed healthy, well-bred $1000 puppy is a fraction of what it will cost to own that dog for 12 years. A poorly bred dog with bad hips, allergies, and a not so bright disposition will end up costing you thousands more in medical bills not to mention hours of frustration and disappointment. At the same time, if you are not going to pay for a high quality purebred, then do the animal kingdom a favor and go to the shelter and get a mixed breed puppy that will be healthier and smarter than a poorly bred ‘purebred
If you research, find a reputable breeder, and are willing to wait for a puppy, you can purchese any of these for $600-$800. Some for less. If you go to a byb or newspaper ad, you may find them as cheap as $300-$500, but you get what you pay for, so for a healthy dog, don’t go this route. If you go to a pet store and but a puppy mill puppy, easily you can pay $1500-$2000, but you get your puppy right away, but again, puppy mill puppys are not well bred and have a host of genetic, temperment, and social issues. Plus you would be supporting a horrible institution. If you are willing to get a mixed dog, or an older pure bred dog, go to petfinder.com and you can find these dogs through differnt rescue organizations, they have the occasional pure bred puppy but not often. More likely they will have a puppy-mix or and older purebred. For a mix expect to pay around $150 plus travel expenses, for a purbred around $250 plus travel.
If your family owns and shows or competes with Border Collies then you know that well bred dogs are expensive whether they are for competition or not.
Price can vary greatly based on many things, your location being one of the big ones. It would be impossible to give you an average on each of these breeds without knowing your location. You can ship a dog from anywhere, but then you easily add at least another $250+ to the price. You may be able to find each one of these breeds for $300 or so if you look but again you sacrifice quality. A quality breeder is going to charge at least $900-1000 even for a “pet” quality because they have invested in health testing, temperment testing, quality vetting, and have insured the best conditions for a healthy happy life. They will also want to be sure that you are willing to invest in the health of the puppy. The most important thing is to ask the potential breeder what health and temperment test have been preformed on the parents, and then spend at least a couple hours with both the mother and puppy observing their temperments.
If these things are not important to you the best thing to do is to call the local animal shelters and rescues and put yourself on their waiting lists for a puppy or dog that fits what you’re looking for, the more the better. Or better yet you could volunteer to foster for a local rescue- a great way to get to know a dog/puppy, and help save a life. Our Boxers are show dogs that I love with all my heart, but my best friend is a rescued Pomperanian who has horrible allergies and bad knees. He was free in the beginning, but much more expensive vetting then the $1500 Boxers who never get sick and don’t have to take allergy medication everyday.
