I Have A Question! 10 Points!?

So we have been looking at a Golden Retriever since it was at animal control, now a Golden Retriever rescue has him thankfully. I don’t know if we are going to get her yet. But, I was wondering at Golden rescues, if you have a disadvantage if you don’t own a Golden? On most of the adoption stories, most of the families have other Goldens as well. My family only has an Italian Greyhound. I just hope they don’t favor people with Goldens more, because I really want her, and know we would provide her with probably a better home than most. When we go out of town we board our dog at a cage-free place, where they aren’t stuck in kennels all day. My mom stays home, so someone will be there all day, while I’m at school. And we spoil our dog like crazy, but my dog is well behaved and we train him and no dog would be an outside dog.
I just thought because it is a Golden rescue, the rescue would consider someone who had experience with Goldens and would propably choose them more than we would, if we chose to put an application in.http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/display…
Here she is, isn’t she cute? It’s not like I want any Golden, I just really want her! Something just clicked when we saw her, and her story is really sad. :(

    Hello!
Personally I do NOT think that breed specific rescue favour people. They are just determined to find people who are knowledgeable on the certain breed and also would make a good owner! You sound like a good dog owner to me. It is always a benefit when you have a stay at home person who can help out and so that the dog wouldn’t be left alone a lot. That alone gives you a HUGE advantage! I would think you would be a great candidate. Especially if you have a large yard and/or house. Wow she is gorgeous! I think you should put in an application and that you would have a great chance at getting her.
    Good Luck!

The rescue shouldn’t favor people with other goldens. You have experience owning dogs and can provide everything this dog needs. That should be what the rescue cares about. Tell them what you told us and any reasonable rescuer would see you as a perfect home for the adorable retriever. Good luck.

I think that prior experience with a Golden shouldn’t matter in your case. You already have a dog that you love and spoil to death. And since you’re so passionate about this adorable Golden on the website, you should get her. I know that you’ll treat her with the same love you give your other dog, Golden or not.

sorry i really don’t know what your question is but she is really cute i had a golden but she was tooken from us because she got loose and went to the beach and never came back and she was only a big puppy and we think some one took her because she was a really good dog.but it has been like 2 or 3 years since we lost her.And im crying.

Oh my goodness, what a sweet dog. Now I want her! Just kidding, I already have a sweet dog. That dog looks like a happy tropper, and will probably be even happier in your hands. I would not think you’ll have any disadvantages, I mean someone has to start somewhere, right? Just do a lot of research on Golden Retrievers, and show them that you know the same amount of knowledge, that any owner would know. I hope you get her!
    Good Luck!

    She is adorable :)
I would surely hope that they really wouldnt care if you own a Golden or not. I’ve never heard of that, personally.
I think they will be more interested in seeing that you are able and willing to take care of your new pet. From your question, I dont think you will have a problem.

All that will matter is if you are going to be responsible, loving owners and can afford her up keep. Go fill out the paper work for adoption. It might be on a first come first serve basis for the responsible parties.

    Go for it

  16. Holly says:

I do think that they favor people with experience in the breed. I think you should call and talk to them about your concerns. After you have submitted that application, call and talk to someone about the dog you’re interested in. Tell them what you just told us, and that you’re afraid you’ll have less of a chance since you have never owned one.
Good luck!! I think you would be a wonderful home for her and I really hope you get her!

  17. Ellen says:

Do your research — show that you know something about Goldens, and dogs in general.
Tell them what you’ve told us. You’ve got some things in your favor.
Be ready with references, the name of your vet, etc.
Be ready to talk about how you train.
Make it clear that your IG is socialized and trained, and that you know how to protect your more fragile dog from the friendly advances of a bigger dog, when playing.
Bring the IG with you, if the shelter allows it, to show that you care deeply about the dog you have (which, if they don’t get along, may end the whole thing, but that would be a good thing, since you don’t want any danger to either dog).
Be honest about how she has caught your heart and why — if someone comes into a breed rescue, and they only want the dog they saw in a picture because it’s pretty, that’s bad! But, if they are really intrigued by something about the dog’s description and story, that’s different.

  18. Jessy says:

I dont think it will matter if you dont have another golden. All dogs are different. Some traits in different breeds are the same. But really she is just a dog, with a different personality than the last one. As long as they can see you will care for her and love her, than they you should have no problem getting her. Good luck! And good karma to you for wanting to adopt a purebred instead of buying a puppy. :) (:

  19. Allecto1 says:

She’s adorable! I’m so glad that you are considering adoption over purchasing a puppy. I cannot speak for all rescues, but most of them do not have prefer over whether or not you already own one of the breed they are adopting out. They look for things like your lifestyle, how often the dog is left alone, your experience with dogs in general (and you have an IG so no issues), they usually require that your other pets are spayed or neutered and they usually like to do a home inspection to ensure the dog is going into good living conditions.
Put in your application for her, you have just as much chance as any other responsible owner and I really hope you get her. She looks like a sweetheart

yawn……just another BYBd junky Golden…there are thousands being dumped by their irresponsible scum owners daily. “Rescue” will practically turn inside out to dump one of em ANYWHERE .
