I Need Help From Racing Greyhound Trainers!?

I’m 16 and I want to own and train greyhounds one day.I am just curious as to how you teach the dogs to chase the rabbits? I know that some people let them kill live bunnies but there is another way is’nt there? I love all animals and Dont think I’d make a good trainer if it involves killing bunnies. Also what level of qualifacation do you need to get a trainer’s licence? Diplomas, degrees?

Don’t take the Greyhounds out to kill live hares. That’s a totally different sport.
However, if you don’t have a Greyhound fit for the track, you may want to start with lure coursing, open field coursing or oval track coursing. These are fun sports that people play with their dogs. They’re not paid to do it.
Usually there’s not much training involved for sports like lure coursing–it’s all instinct. Just make sure your dog is fit, because if he’s not, he won’t be able to keep up and he may not qualify.
As to racing Greyhound training, there are many books available. Even several of the books on adopting a retired Greyhound discuss training methods. This would be a good start. If you have a track in the area, ask if you can apprentice to a trainer.
But be careful. There is a lot of controversy in the field of Greyhound racing. To the best of my knowledge, many of these have improved over the last decade or so, but I’m sure there’s better and worse trainers. Ask around and find someone that the other trainers and owners approve of.
Also be aware, if you want to get into doing this, that most dog and animal lovers are greatly apposed to Greyhound racing. From my limited knowledge, I think there are some good, caring owners and trainers in the sport. I have no clue what the percentage is. Anyway, you will definitely get negative feedback from some animal lovers if you pursue a job in the Greyhound racing industry.
    Good luck.

Take the greyhounds out to kill wild hare’s. And if you are self taught you dont need any qualifications.

If you can find a rabbit skin from a hunting place you let the dog sniff it then start runninh holding it by a string thats tied to it when the dog catches it give him or her a treat or you could buy an alive rabbit and get its sent on a toy rabbit and do the same thing
