I have a 4 year old lab/greyhound mix. I have had him since he was 3 month old. Everytime I leave the house he shakes like crazy. When he was really little- I crate trained him and everytime I would leave he would crap all over his cage. It has been 4 years and he still shakes and pants. I have a second dog- thinking that this would help and it hasn’t. What can I do???

unfortunatly some dogs are just more needy when it comes to attention. and being alone can really stress them out!!!!!!
My dog is the same way and the only solution is to crate her when I leave or put her in the dog run other wise she will tear everything up!
Seems how your dog poops in the crate I would say your best bet is to put up a dog run and leave him ot there when you are not going to be home.

Some dogs just cant hold their bowels, and it maybe anxiety from being left alone. It sounds like you are doing the right thing, maybe put him outside in a pen so he will poop there. Labs are not likely to go in their kennels, I’m not sure about the greyhound.

I have a very anxious dog too! Something one of my friends suggested is leaving for a very short time…about 10 seconds and coming right back. As your dog gets better about your leaving for that short time, gradually increase it. Also, ask your vet about puppy prozac. I am going to have my dog evaluated next week…aparently it REALLY helps with anxious dogs!

Do you crate train him right now? When I had my cocker spaniel, she would freak out in her crate and so I began to leave her out when I left. I give her a treat before I leave, and that seems to satisfy her a little. Maybe you should see a professional trainer. They have trainers that will come to house and analyze the situation and see what the best alternative would be. All in all, good luck!

the dog is probably looking for security because when you leave the security is gone so what i suggest is giving the dog something with your scent on it to calm the fear

Why don’t you try bringing him to a vet. Sounds like your dog has separation anxiety, and there are therapy medications for just that.
You can also give him the cold shoulder treatment (while nurturing his basic needs too, of course.) This trains hims to be less dependent on you.
