My Dog Is 11 Months Old, She Is House Trained But Has Been Goin Lately On The Floor…?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
She usually scratches at the door, but we have been keeping my boyfriends mom’s dog for about a week, and lately she has been going on the floor and not scratching. I dont know what to do. we usually put her in her cage and let her stay in there for a little while. I dont know if it is the breed or what is going on with her. She is a jack russell and pointer mix (i think it is jack russell and greyhound but the pound told us pointer). If anyone has any suggestions please help!!

Dogs urinate inside to “mark their territory”. Your dog is probably just letting the visiting dog know that this is “her place” and not to get too comfortable. this behavior will stop if the other dog leaves. If the other dog is staying permanently or for a long time at your house then you need to show your dog that her territory marking will not be tolerated. Do this by shouting “NO!” whenever you see her going in the house. Then put her in her crate immediately. It is important that you catch her in the act and discipline her right away. If you yell at her because you found a puddle on the floor that she put there hours ago, she isn’t going to remember and won’t realize why you are yelling at her.
She’s feeling threatned by the other dog so in her own way, peeing around the house is her way of telling you that she’s not impressed right now.
Buy some puppy training pads and just keep being persistant.
have you ever heard of a child have a terrible 2′s??? that’s whats happening to your puppy. shes testing u to see how far u will go and what she can do before u get mad. (same with a kid). and now like there is another dog at your house she thinks because shes the baby she can do whatever she wants. just be patient and strict with her. shell come around just teach her the same things u teach her at first.
It could be caused by stress of the other dog being around.
Regardless of the cause, just go back to what you did to potty train her and keep doing it until she is trustworthy again.
Her little world is upside down by that other dog. She needs more attention from you. Take her out more often and tell her she is a good girl when she does outside.
She may be jealous of the other dog you have and wants attention.Start going going outside again with your dog and reward her for going outside
my dog also did that as it got older i think its because they get tired of it
This is normal for a dog to revert at this age – start back at square one like you would with any puppy – she will learn pretty fast she can’t get away with going in the house – yu can also train her to show you when she has to go – there is something here about using bells.http://www.owningdogs.com/forum/index.ph…
