My Dog Is Crate Trained Mostly But On Occasion?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
he poops in his cage. The big problem is that he eats it. I am very frustrated over this. I am not sure how to stop him from pooping in the cage or how to get him to stop eating it. Any serious info would be appreciated. By the way, he is an Itailian Greyhound and is about 9 months old and is completely house trained.

He’s still young, and his ability to hold it is still being developed. Do you exercise him a lot before he goes into the kennel? Greyhounds, especially, need that. It “gets everything moving” and he cleans out before going in. I walk my English Setters every morning, damn the sub-zero temps, because if I don’t, they do end up going in the house when I am gone to work.
Regarding the dining habits…it’s called coprophagy or coprophagia. You can sprinkle some stuff on his food to make the feces taste bad (I hear Bill Envgall saying, “Make it taste BAD?!” ) at the following link:http://www.petrx.com/index.asp?PageActio…
Good luck.
Maybe the crate is too big for your dog. I’ve heard that if it’s too big they sometimes will go the bathroom in it.
