People who don’t have greyhounds don’t understand what you’re asking. This question is to find out how to get their greyhound used to their cats so he/she doesn’t chase them so they can live together peacefully.
Always, keep the muzzle on them until you are sure the dog isn’t going to go after the cat. Even with a muzzle on, they can hurt the cat by trying to grab them and can put too much pressure on them and bruise them. When you got the greyhound it should have tested cat friendly/tolerant, otherwise an adoption group shouldn’t have let you adopt it. If the dog appears interested in the cat, always say a loud “no” until it gets the idea that the cats are not on the menu.
The answer above this one is correct in saying NEVER let the cat outside with your dog. The greyhound’s instinct will kick in and your cat will be in trouble if it tries to run.
do you want him to chase the cats????
i used a muzzle for a little while until he got used to them now sammy sleeps with able. now, heres a VERY IMPORTANT NOTE. do not ever let your cat in the backyard with your dog. he cannot differiate between cats and rabbits and instinct takes over. sammy got beat up pretty bad able bruised his spine. but they both are best buds in the house.
As a greyhound breeder & trainer for over 20 yrs, I can tell you this….It is a sighthounds instinct to case, and if he doesn’t chase now, he won’t later on.
You have a rare greyhound. Most of the track “rejects” are not cat-safe, just “slow”.
To chase the cats? or stop?
I hope I’m reading this wrong, or this is a joke…
