Why Would My Dog Do This??

My dog just got in from her evening walk, all things seemingly normal. She then came into the livingroom and peed right in the middle of a rug. She is 2 years old and an italian greyhound. I thought she knew better than this ,especially since she had just been out. there have been no strange animals in the house and nothing odd happened today. What would cause a fixed female dog who is house trained to do this? She does this about every other month-Could she just be not very smart?

Ask yourself, “Who came into the house first, me or her?” If the answer is her, that is your problem. She is the leader, the house is hers, so in her mind, she can pee on her carpet whenever she wants. And please never doubt the intelligence of your dog. Sometimes I think dogs are smarter than people because they follow their instincts instead of suppress them like people.
EDIT: Dogs do not feel hate, so they do not hate to be corrected. It is part of their nature to understand corrections… it is how you correct that matters and the positive energy behind your corrections. She most likely slinks away because of your reaction to seeing her. She does not understand what she is doing wrong or she would not do it anymore.

    Oh they are smart!
Whenever my mother put her dog in a kennel, as soon as she came in the house she would do her business (whichever there was a need for) right in the middle of the living room.

she may have a bladder infection. if she keeps doing this, then go to the Vet. if this is the only time she did it, maybe she couldnt get to the back door in time. or showing her dominance. only time will tell whats really going on. is she spayed? God Bless

She wants to get ur attention! she likes making a fool of her self and saying “look at me”.
    this was purely experimental.

Even a female will do something to mark it’s spot. She is reminding everyone that this is HER place.

She smells where she peed before so thinks it is ok to continue peeing there. Put vinager and dish soap in a spray bottle and spray where she pees and then rinse with clear water and then let dry. or better yet steam cleam the rug with vinager in the steamer to get rid of smell.

oh come on, its just a dog, trained but a dog, sometimes humans behave very badly, why wouldnt she do the same?

ask a vet, just incase she has something that could get worse, an if she doesn’t the vet could probably know, but you should just call the vet, instead of bringing your dog there, unless its really bad, ’cause my dogs hate the vet. My six year old dog fell down the stairs one time and started shaking and we thought it was from the fall, but he had had a seisure and died of a heart attack not long after, so just make sure its nothing big k

    She misses you.
Unfortunately, she wants more attention. This is her way of trying to get it. You must be gone a lot during the day.
