Help Please? I Need Advice And Opinions!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Here, let me just state a few facts before I start the story.
-I’m a 13 year old girl.
-Less than a week ago, my neighbor’s gave me an 8 week old Italian Greyhound puppy.
-The puppy’s name is Mickey.
Ok then, let’s start the story.
Well, my neighbor’s dog had a litter of puppies. After convincing my dad, I was allowed to get one. The only catch was that I had to care for the dog all by myself. My little sister, however (she’s 11) wanted it to be her dog too, so she volunteered to help a bit. I got the dog less than a week ago. (About 4 days ago.) Well, caring for Mickey has taken quite a lot of time from me, leaving me almost no free time every day. Sure, my sister helps a bit, but it doesn’t make much of a difference. Mickey isn’t house trained, so accidents happen. He soils his crate every night, so I have to clean it out in the morning. I just have no time to hang out with my friends, or even go on the computer! (He’s napping now.)
Mickey’s taking over my social life. My dad said that if I start slacking off, he’s giving Mickey back to my neighbors. The neighbors said they would be fine with it if I decided I couldn’t handle Mickey, but I don’t want to give him up.
I love Mickey, but school’s starting in a few days, and I’m going to be a lot busier in the mornings getting ready, and busier in the afternoons with homework. I want to be able to keep up my grades up, hang out with my friends, and keep Mickey, but it just doesn’t seem possible. Caring for a puppy isn’t easy, and now I realize that.
Thank you if you took the time to read that. So does anybody have any advice? (And does anybody know how to get Mickey to stop using the bathroom in his crate during the night?)
Need Advice For My New Rescue Dog?

I just adopted a 2 year old Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix a few days ago. She was already crate trained, but not totally house trained. I adopted her last Saturday, and starting on Monday I’ve been taking her to doggie daycare. Everyday on the way to daycare (about a 30 minute drive) she poops in her crate, sometimes twice. She also poops on the way home. The crate and the car are becoming negative associations for her. I’m not sure how to fix this. I also changed the type of dog food she was eating, so this could be contributing to upsetting her digestive system. I live alone in an apartment and I thought doggie daycare would be a nice alternative to being home alone all day, but so far it seems to be creating a lot of stress for her. I know she probably just needs some time, just wondering if anyone can think of something I’m doing wrong or something that would help her enjoy the car ride more. She’s a very sensitive little dog.
Advice Needed For 10 Week Old Pup. Crate Training And Biting.?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have an 11 week old labrador/greyhound puppy who has a few issues we hope to solve with crate training, but as i am new to this concept, I would like to ask a little advice.
Firstly, I am struggling to find some good info on toilet training with a crate. My vet advised to have some puppy pads in the crate overnight with the pup as well as food and water but alot of the websites i have read advise against this. What is the best method?
We are mainly trying this due to some bad chewing behaviour. I know she is only young and it is in her nature to chew, but she has pulled a significant amount of wall paper off the wall so i am a little concerned about that. Obviously wall paper is not a recommended diet for a pup so i worry about her swallowing some, hence one more reason for the crate.
As far as biting goes, she jumps up and snaps at our hands alot. She has a tendency to crouch down with her back end in the air and growl, she will then bark and lunge up to bite. A friend insists this is her challenging authority so i would like to hear thoughts on controlling this behaviour.
She is a lovely dog and some of her training is going well, she just has some destructive tendencies that i would like some constructive advice on correcting please.
Thanks for helping

Can You Give Me Advice On Potty Training A New 1 Yr Old Italian Greyhound?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
My fiance and I just adopted a 1 year old Italian Greyhound who is not potty trained! I need some advice on training this dog. We have 2 1/2 year old Italian Greyhound and I had no problems training him. I’m just unsure about how to go about it. I just keep priasing him and rewarding him with treats when he does the right thing. He hasn’t peed in the house yet, but he’s pooped 3 times (we’ve only had him a day). Another problem is that we live in NY and it’s been FREEZING lately! Please help!!
