My Dogs Wont Stop Peeing In The House?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
i have a 4 yo and a 2 yo greyhound. The 2 yo is a female. She just came off the tracks. we were training her with the crate and she was doing good not making a mess in the house til lately. She has no problem showing us that she can make in the house in front of us. She used to be so good to as letting us know when she needs to go out and now she has turned back to the not so trained dog she was. Its as if we crate train her she pees in the house, and if she doesn’t pee, she is bad in the crate (whining, barking..etc) . My 4 year old will pee on only certain things. even right after i clean it! he has been in many homes before.. I am at my end, and am not sure what to do. ANy suggestions will be well appreciated. Thank you.
How Do People Live With Dogs Peeing And Pooing Inside Their Home?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have been watching Victoria Stilwell’s “It’s Me or the Dog” and I am amazed how people can live in a home with dogs peeing and pooing everywhere. I don’t mean puppies which are being trained. It is natural that they will have accidents. I am referring to fully grown dogs which should, if they had been properly trained, known better.
The show the other day was 2 Greyhounds (gorgeous dogs) which were gated in the kitchen overnight and every morning and when they returned home there was pee and poo all over the kitchen. Video footage showed the dogs walking through it and then jumping up onto the kitchen benches. How can people live like that? It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. My own dogs have been trained to stay out of the kitchen altogether – let alone not peeing and pooing through the house.
The stench must be stomach turning in their homes.
How can they live with this every day of their lives?
Getting My Dogs To Stay In Their Outdoor Doghouse?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Hi all, this is my first time asking a question here. A bit of background: I have two SPCA dogs, the younger one is about a year and a half old German Shepherd (may have some greyhound), and the older one is about 2 and a half and is malamute/husky.
The older one is very furry and I don’t worry about him at all in this -30 cold. But the younger one doesn’t have much of an undercoat. They have a dog run in the back, and we keep them out there during the day.
We built them a doghouse big enough for the both of them, so that they could share their heat during the winter. Problem is, I’m not sure if they actually use it. Is there any product or anything I could use to make them like it? I’ve put hay inside so the ground isn’t freezing, plus I’ve sprinkled a few treats inside. They’re crate trained, so they’re not afraid of it, and we occasionally physically put them in and they don’t seem to mind, but I’m worried they don’t acutally use it…
Thanks!
Tell Me About My Dog’s Likely Temperment?! Mixed Breeds?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
In the past 6 months I’ve adopted two dogs from a) being found stray and b) the animal shelter. I know it would just be a matter of guestimating what the temperments of each animal would be — but would you like to take a guess and give me some constructive advice?
Dog 1 – Ginger – 1yo spayed female JRT/West Highland Terrier
Dog 2 – Foxy… – 3yo spayed female Chi/Italian Greyhound
They are wonderful pets and get along famously, but I was wondering what I have to look forward to for either girl. We love them SO much! Each is crate trained, walked 2x a day, allowed to play in the yard supervised, and fed Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed Adult kibble (if any of that applies to their temperment).
Constructive advice appreciated and welcomed.
Ironically I’m Concerned About A Dog’s Welfare, What Would You Do?

(Again, a lot of questions on this issue for me)
My sister (who lives with me) seems to have little concern for her dog.
He’s a greyhound x lab and they NEVER walk him, he RARELY goes to a park, he doesn’t go out in the yard much anymore as he barks at everything that moves including airplanes. He bit me tonight and my two dogs tried to kill him (he was pinned to the floor with blood pooling out of his head and face). Afterwards here was a gash in his head where I think I saw his skull, his tongue was bleeding, his ear is torn…. I called and called and she wouldn’t come home to take care of him. THEN seemed to think he was fine as I’d dumped a whack of quick stop on it to stop it from bleeding and being infected.
He’s not trained, he’s rarely played with and he doesn’t listen well.
I’ve tried to tell her the problems to no avail. “…. take care of your dog” “your dog is dominant” “walk your dog”….
As an animal lover, what would you do to make her listen and be a good owner?
Our New Dog Is Aggressive To To My Other 2 Dogs?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Hello
I have 2 dogs, a greyhound ***** un-neutered (4) and a labrador dog neutered (2), they have always lived very well together, share food etc and never had a fight.
We spend a few days a week at my mums as it is near to the horses and she has a un-neutered lab ***** (2). Again, never any fighting they all love each other and come and go between the houses.
Recently we rescued a 5yr old golden retreiver ***** from a puppy farm, she was in awful condition, with nails so long she couldn’t walk and so had been forced to live in her own feacees. They all got along fine for the first 3 weeks, although it was apparent she was top dog. She is 5, and has had lots of puppies.
However she has now become very grumbly if they come near her in the house, just growling and saying keep away, and in the garden it is much worse. She sometimes won’t even let our other doogs outside, and will hog anything and make a nest with it like they were puppie (the hogging and nesting is ONLY outside, never inside).
She is also proving very difficult to house train. despite waiting for her to toilet just before bed, there will still be poo and wee on the floor by half way through the night.
Help please!! We love her but she is makeing our other dogs scared!
She is 5.
Thank you
xx
How Do I Train My Dogs To Walk Easier?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
We have 2 dogs, A Boxer And a Mutt (Beagle/Greyhound) and whenever I walk them (Everyday) they go everywhere. The constant pulling and stopping is getting ridiculous, and when I pull on the leash, I feel like It hurts them.
Any answers or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
How To Socialize A Greyhound With Other Dogs?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
We’ve had our greyhound for a little over 3 months. She’s perfect with my parents dogs when we visit their house, but growls at new dogs that we meet while on walks/ in pet stores/etc.
Usually it’s a hackle raising growl at the new dog as they meet face to face. The growl happens so fast that I cannot seem to find a time to correct before she actually gets that growl out.
She seems to want to meet new dogs, but doesn’t pull us over to them. She’s very polite on the leash. I think it may be getting worse as she settles in more and more with us. Maybe guarding me? She is a momma’s girl…. ![]()
After the growl happens I try to redirect her attention to stop the growl. If I physically pull her back she will try and lunge at the other dog, so I try to move to the side and get her away.
Usually if she’s off leash and with the dog in a pen or fenced in area she’s fine after a “your not the boss of me growl” I almost feel that she doesn’t know how to greet other pups in a social manner so she feels uncomfortable and growls, which puts me on edge!
It’s only with dogs that I let her meet, never at dogs we just walk by.
So I guess my question is how do I help her become more comfortable? Most dogs we meet on walks have no manners and are crazy! Not balanced polite dogs. Usually dragging their owners over to us to meet! I can certainly see how that would make our pup uncomfortable. I hesitate to take her to a community dog park and turn her free. The dogs there will probably be too excited for her to learn how to properly interact with dogs.
She’s NOT food motivated and will refuse to take any treats if she in any type of new environment. Sometimes will even refuse to take treats while we are training in our quiet apartment. I iwsh I could get her motivated enough for some clicker training.
I hesitate to sign up for a dog class, I almost feel like it would be a waste of time. She’s not in need of any help, other than socializing with a bunch of different types of dogs.
Any ideas on what I could do?
