Greyhound Poops In House And Eats Alot?

I have a 2 year old greyhound that is potty trained but likes to poop in the house. How do i get him to quit this? he also sometimes pees. I know that he isn’t trying to show dominance due to his submissiveness but am at a loss as to how stop this issue. He also goes past child gates and gets into food while we are gone. I tried shutting him in a room and he clawed through the door. we like the dog and want to keep him but need to get rid of these issues to keep him.

My Adopted Greyhound Is Peeing On The Carpet–help!?

My 7 year old female greyhound has decided to start peeing by my baby grand piano. I’ve had the carpet cleaned, I’ve told her “no pee!” and she seems to know, but somehow she goes back to that area. I can’t seem to catch her in the act. She gets lazy about going outside when it’s cold. I really like the dog, but am concerned about this. I wonder if I should get her a crate (which I’m sure she will not like) to go in while I am out. I would like to hear from others who have adopted Greyhounds and how they have trained them.

My Greyhound Hates Small Animals?

I have the sweetest and most gentle greyhound ever. But when he sees a small dog or any small animal he goes NUTS and turns into a ferocious and vicious dog. He even bit me one time because I was trying to pull him away from this other small dog. Does anyone know the best way to train him without taking him to a dog trainer? It’s to the point where I can’t even take him to get him groomed because he grabbed a cat once while they were taking him back to get washed. Thank God the cat’s ok. It clawed his face pretty good though. Any suggestions?

Was My Greyhound Mix Beat?

As you know Mutley is a MUT, he is lab, boxer, and pitbull mix, he is a good size. more muscular looking dog. So yesterday i came upon this ad in the paper that said free to good home black lab mix. i called and met up to see the dog. the dog doesn’t look a bit of lab to me…. but i decided to take her anyway so my mutley would have a friend.

i got her home yesterday and noticed she was very scared, (of course it’s a new environment for her.) but she seemed to have clicked and got the hang of things fast. Mutley and the new dog (Shadow approx 1yr old) love to rough house. but i’ve noticed she is on the skinny side (i think it’s the greyhound in her) and when she is walking around the house while i am sweeping she suddenly stops and rolls over on her back. when you make a fast move she just suddenly ducks down. she isnt trained much at all, all she knows is to sit. she doesn’t even have the knowledge of how to walk on a leash. i have a big fenced in yard, and i was wondering if you thought she may have been beat too, also what are some good training tips for adult dogs that were never taught as a puppy? 10 points for best informative answer. thank you:)

Anyone Have A Greyhound?

Does anyone have a greyhound that they can share some information with me?
Please no links that took no more effort than Googling greyhound, thanks!
1. I have applied through GPA to adopt. How long should my process be to “get the dog”?
2. What will disqualify me and what will qualify me? I have a small terrier and some outside cats (2). I also have a 2 year old child that loves all animals. The cats are VERY dog friendly.
3. I prefer low key, lazy type dogs. And henceforth Greyhound’s tend to match my desires in a large breed dog. Should I expect a hyper, spastic dog like my terrier? Certainly they will not always be a “40 MPH couch potato”.
4. How do they do with stairs? I have a large, two story home with a large yard.We are trying to get some “areas” fixed with our wood fence. We recently had a hurricane that let the fence have it. Our neighbors behind us claim its their fence and say that we aren’t to touch it. Its ours, but hey… let them pay for it!
5. We have the invisible fence (one of the co’s other brands” pet containment system. Will we get disqualified for this? Our terrier is trained well now and hardly ever has to wear the receiver collar anymore. The “box” is on the wall in the garage. Will the adoption case workers look in my garage and see it?
6. The adoption case workers, as I call them are supposed to come to the potential pet parent’s home to do a home study. Where will they look, what will they be concerned of, what will they care about?
I had to take my SPCA dachshund to back to the SPCA last year due to his escaping from the fence. I followed protocol “Spca requires him back to them if I have to get rid of him”. He had been in our family for 5 years.

I’m Getting A Greyhound Next Week, And I Have A Few Questions…?

We are going to visit two different rescue groups next week, so I don’t have one picked out yet, but I would like to eventually register her with the CGC training. Does anyone know anything regarding GHs and this test? This will be our first GH, but I have been around several of them, and I know that they are very sweet and gentle dogs, and the ones I have spent time with seem like they would be very good material for therapy dogs. Does anyone have a greyhound that is registered with the CGC?
Also, because they are full bred, can I register her with the AKC. The websites of the places we are looking at don’t mention anything about the dogs being registered or coming with papers. They are retired racers, so it is rescue, but I would still like to register her if possible.
And lastly! I keep saying “her”, but we really don’t know yet. I am pretty sure that I want a female, but I am more concerned with a good dog. So, males v. females? Pros and cons… Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Should I Get An Italian Greyhound?

My wife wants a dog. I only will get a dog if it doesn’t bark much, doesn’t drool, doesn’t stink, and isn’t hyper. Also, I don’t want a dog that sheds a lot. After some initial research, I found out about Italian Greyhounds. Would this dog be a good fit? Both of us work, but she has most of the summer off, so she could do some initial training during the summer, but other than that it would be normal 9 – 5 for both of us (and we don’t have kids). Or, should we stick with hamsters and fish?

I Have An Italian Greyhound And A Few Problems…help?

I am trying to potty train my Italian Greyhound, she is 4 months old. She has a crate and she spent about 6 hours a day in it and every night.
She has a schedule and I take her out every 2 hours so she can go potty.
Anyway, I just don’t know what else to do because she goes potty inside the house, like few minutes after we’re back from the walk.
She potty sometimes in her crate too, usually at night.
She gets food 3 times daily in not excessive amounts.
Another thing is she loves to chase my cat, which my cat doesn’t care he kinds of play with the dog. The only thing about that is that she bites the cat, how to stop that?
Thank you for any help!

A Question For Racing Greyhound Trainers!?

Can you feeed a racing dog on raw food or can their high energy needs only be met by those specialy made diets for racing dogs? (just pondering this as I hope to train my own greyhounds someday =D)

Can A Greyhound Safely Do Agility?

Agility is something I really enjoy doing with my dogs, and I’m adopting a GH in the near future (should be between two and five years), and want to know if its safe to have them trained in Agility?
I’m aware of the elbow and spinal issues they have, and I don’t want to push the dog I adopt into injuring itself. I’ll have the dog tested prior to training.
But can a GH safely run an agility course at an acceptable speed without risking injury?
