We just got her last night and she seemed very docile but two hours ago she lunged at one of my cats and looked like she was going to bite him. Has anybody had any experience with this? Can she be trained not to hurt my two kitties if she has a hunting dogs instincts?

So we have been looking at a Golden Retriever since it was at animal control, now a Golden Retriever rescue has him thankfully. I don’t know if we are going to get her yet. But, I was wondering at Golden rescues, if you have a disadvantage if you don’t own a Golden? On most of the adoption stories, most of the families have other Goldens as well. My family only has an Italian Greyhound. I just hope they don’t favor people with Goldens more, because I really want her, and know we would provide her with probably a better home than most. When we go out of town we board our dog at a cage-free place, where they aren’t stuck in kennels all day. My mom stays home, so someone will be there all day, while I’m at school. And we spoil our dog like crazy, but my dog is well behaved and we train him and no dog would be an outside dog.
I just thought because it is a Golden rescue, the rescue would consider someone who had experience with Goldens and would propably choose them more than we would, if we chose to put an application in.http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/display…
Here she is, isn’t she cute? It’s not like I want any Golden, I just really want her! Something just clicked when we saw her, and her story is really sad.

Does Anyone Have A Fool-proof Way To Pottytrain An Adult Dog?

I am a single mom of a 13 year old son; we have a 2 year old female greyhound, Daphne. On our way home one night we found an un-neutered, non-chipped, no collar, small brown Chihuahua terrier mix running in the street, we tried for a couple months to find his owner with no luck so we decided to keep him, we had him neutered, shots, full vet care, the vet said he was about 2 years old by the look of his teeth.
We wanted to eventually get another greyhound and not a little mutt dog; but he, Buster [what we named him] and Daphne have so much fun playing so I gave into the idea that he would be our 2nd dog.
It has been 6 months now and I am still unable to potty train him. We live in a townhome without a yard, and when we got Daphne I had a doggie door put in that goes from the kitchen to the garage so that is where I have trained her to go.
Buster will go out the doggie door to go potty but he also pees on my dining room table legs and poops next to the dining room table, he also poops at the top of the stairs and pees near there on the door frame. I am at my wits end. I have tried everything, keeping him tethered to me constantly and crating him when I can’t. I take him running on the bike for a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening and take him out to go potty every hour and praise him after he goes. I want to train him to mainly go out the doggy door to go so I started taking him on the leash into the garage so he would know that is where I wanted him to go but he would never go in front of me so I would block the doggy door and leave him out there for about a half and hour and he would go, so I would take the block off the doggie door and I would praise him and let him back in. After a couple weeks of this then I would start to trust him and then he would go right back to peeing and pooping in the dining room and at the top of the stairs so I would go back to the tethering and in the garage for a half an hour and praise routine for another week to 2 weeks and same thing back to pooping and peeing. I have been doing this for 6 months now and am growing resentful towards this dog and really do not know what to do.
I have spent hundreds on enzyme cleaners to remove the smell I have turned my table upside down and wiped the table legs off with bleach, I have steamed cleaned my carpet over and over and over and I am so frustrated I don’t know what to do. This dog is ruining my life we want to succeed in ending this behavior in Buster but starting to feel there is no answer.
Please help.
I’m Getting A Greyhound Next Week, And I Have A Few Questions…?

We are going to visit two different rescue groups next week, so I don’t have one picked out yet, but I would like to eventually register her with the CGC training. Does anyone know anything regarding GHs and this test? This will be our first GH, but I have been around several of them, and I know that they are very sweet and gentle dogs, and the ones I have spent time with seem like they would be very good material for therapy dogs. Does anyone have a greyhound that is registered with the CGC?
Also, because they are full bred, can I register her with the AKC. The websites of the places we are looking at don’t mention anything about the dogs being registered or coming with papers. They are retired racers, so it is rescue, but I would still like to register her if possible.
And lastly! I keep saying “her”, but we really don’t know yet. I am pretty sure that I want a female, but I am more concerned with a good dog. So, males v. females? Pros and cons… Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Anyone Have A Greyhound?

Does anyone have a greyhound that they can share some information with me?
Please no links that took no more effort than Googling greyhound, thanks!
1. I have applied through GPA to adopt. How long should my process be to “get the dog”?
2. What will disqualify me and what will qualify me? I have a small terrier and some outside cats (2). I also have a 2 year old child that loves all animals. The cats are VERY dog friendly.
3. I prefer low key, lazy type dogs. And henceforth Greyhound’s tend to match my desires in a large breed dog. Should I expect a hyper, spastic dog like my terrier? Certainly they will not always be a “40 MPH couch potato”.
4. How do they do with stairs? I have a large, two story home with a large yard.We are trying to get some “areas” fixed with our wood fence. We recently had a hurricane that let the fence have it. Our neighbors behind us claim its their fence and say that we aren’t to touch it. Its ours, but hey… let them pay for it!
5. We have the invisible fence (one of the co’s other brands” pet containment system. Will we get disqualified for this? Our terrier is trained well now and hardly ever has to wear the receiver collar anymore. The “box” is on the wall in the garage. Will the adoption case workers look in my garage and see it?
6. The adoption case workers, as I call them are supposed to come to the potential pet parent’s home to do a home study. Where will they look, what will they be concerned of, what will they care about?
I had to take my SPCA dachshund to back to the SPCA last year due to his escaping from the fence. I followed protocol “Spca requires him back to them if I have to get rid of him”. He had been in our family for 5 years.

I Have An Italian Greyhound And A Few Problems…help?

I am trying to potty train my Italian Greyhound, she is 4 months old. She has a crate and she spent about 6 hours a day in it and every night.
She has a schedule and I take her out every 2 hours so she can go potty.
Anyway, I just don’t know what else to do because she goes potty inside the house, like few minutes after we’re back from the walk.
She potty sometimes in her crate too, usually at night.
She gets food 3 times daily in not excessive amounts.
Another thing is she loves to chase my cat, which my cat doesn’t care he kinds of play with the dog. The only thing about that is that she bites the cat, how to stop that?
Thank you for any help!
