I want to own and train my own racing greyhounds.
The only way I can do this is if I go to Tafe in New South Wales, which is absolutely impossible (I live in Queensland,by the way). What am I going to do?
My dream has been shattered,so has my Thoroughbred racing dream, for the exact same reasons.
Is it hopeless for me to become a greyhound trainer?
and dont you industry haters lecture me,I know some trainers are very very cruel, but I plan on treating my dogs properly (at least,I was going to,before my dream got crushed),in fact I have MORE love and respect for ALL kinds of animals and even TREES than I do for humans.
Naughty Pups – Help Me Train Them Please!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Hello I have two dogs, One who is 3 years old who was a beautiful girl, could take her anywhere and she didnt do anything wrong, then we bought a puppy
All went out the window, that puppy is now about 16 months old now. and both dogs have gone ferral, Where we use to live was on a path way, so they never saw dogs unless they walked passed, which the dog on the other side of the path barked at, of cause our dogs learnt this habbit. in which we had tried VERY hard to get them to stop, we have now moved to a corner block where we live next door to a little fluffy dog think its a shitzu or something, one that yaps at our dogs when they play, (they are very rough together) sometimes ours bark back, (when we are home we stop them, by making them come and sit and wait for 10 secs without barking and give them a treat) but when i am at work i think the little dog must get put outside. Cos my pups are digging near the fence to get to it, The neighbour has a plank of wood along the gound on its side so their dog cant dig but i dont know how to stop them, i have put poo in their holes, they dont care, they still dig in it. any suggestions?
also with the clothes line… the last place we could fence it off, but this new place we are unable to do it (we only rent) how do we stop them getting my clothes off the line, at the moment i am using those little hangers that you take camping and putting it in garage, but i dont like it. He does the same to plants, instead of digging he just grabs the tops and pulls them out and shakes them (thinks they are toys) we have sprayed the dog off stuff and tried poo and nothing works so far, so we have put plants out front of house, but would like to have them out back again if possible. He only does it when i am not home they have LOADS of toys, which we swap every few days and hide the others, aparently that keeps them interested in them, they get bones when we go to work, they have a kiddy pool which they play in, and have each other, they get walks at night, which is a nightmare in itself, they bark at every dog, cat or person they go past and pull really hard to get to them, they have special collars called infin8 holter or something, link is http://www.blackdog.net.au/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=5 spose to be great for this kind of thing. We did have them in dog obedience classes, but they got use to the dogs there, and would still bark at ones in street, the people that ran the course told us, that they will never get use to strange dogs, which i thought had to be wrong.
Can anyone suggest what we can try, I dont believe in punishment, ie hurting them so no shock colars or anything Jemma did have a choaker chain but made no difference, i dont blame them for being naughty, i blame us for not teaching them right, can anyone please help me to show them the right way, to be good
thanks very much
oh Jemma is a 3 year old Lab x Great Dane
Benson is a 16 Month Cattle cross something?…. ![]()
kind of looks like a whipit or greyhound apparently, VERY fast
Help Please? I Need Advice And Opinions!?

Here, let me just state a few facts before I start the story.
-I’m a 13 year old girl.
-Less than a week ago, my neighbor’s gave me an 8 week old Italian Greyhound puppy.
-The puppy’s name is Mickey.
Ok then, let’s start the story.
Well, my neighbor’s dog had a litter of puppies. After convincing my dad, I was allowed to get one. The only catch was that I had to care for the dog all by myself. My little sister, however (she’s 11) wanted it to be her dog too, so she volunteered to help a bit. I got the dog less than a week ago. (About 4 days ago.) Well, caring for Mickey has taken quite a lot of time from me, leaving me almost no free time every day. Sure, my sister helps a bit, but it doesn’t make much of a difference. Mickey isn’t house trained, so accidents happen. He soils his crate every night, so I have to clean it out in the morning. I just have no time to hang out with my friends, or even go on the computer! (He’s napping now.)
Mickey’s taking over my social life. My dad said that if I start slacking off, he’s giving Mickey back to my neighbors. The neighbors said they would be fine with it if I decided I couldn’t handle Mickey, but I don’t want to give him up.
I love Mickey, but school’s starting in a few days, and I’m going to be a lot busier in the mornings getting ready, and busier in the afternoons with homework. I want to be able to keep up my grades up, hang out with my friends, and keep Mickey, but it just doesn’t seem possible. Caring for a puppy isn’t easy, and now I realize that.
Thank you if you took the time to read that. So does anybody have any advice? (And does anybody know how to get Mickey to stop using the bathroom in his crate during the night?)
My Puppy Is Going In The Crate, Help!!??
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a 3.5 month old Italian greyhound who keeps going wee wee in his crate. At first he went in his crate once in a while (mostly at night when he couldn’t hold it all night long), then I adjusted his feeding schedule and he was doing great for about two weeks only to regress and start going in his crate constantly. We made the crate smaller with a divider so I know thats not the problem. (We cannot make it any smaller or he wont fit in it). Sometimes he goes in the crate even when he’s been in there for only a short period of time, so I know thats not the problem either (we take him out to potty every hour-2 hours). He does go potty outside normally, unless he has just gone potty in the crate in which case he wont go outside. Anyways, I never had this problem with my other dog and we crate trained her the same way. What do I do? Help!!!
Help!!! My Dog Keeps Pooping And Peeing In My Apartment!!!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Me and my boyfriend really need help with our 7 month old Italian Greyhound. She keeps pooping and peeing in our apartment. We try to take her out 3-4 times a day and it’s hard because we have lives and can’t be home 24/7. We both work so it’s really hard for us to take her out ever 3 hours. We’ve tried puppy training pads, but she refuses to go on it. She wont tell us or hint us when she has to go. She just goes when and where ever she feels like it. When we do take her outside sometimes she doesn’t go on the grass but on the sidewalk. I’m desperate! My boyfriend wants to give her up for adoption if her habit doesn’t change! HELP!!!
Can You Help Me Narrow Down What Small Breed Of Dog To Get?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have 4 horses, 2 other dogs (a almost 2yr old Papillon, & a 8yr old Sheltie), & 4 cats (2 inside; 2 outside). All my pets get along with dogs.needs to be a g It ood traveler, and put up with being taken places including horse shows. I’d like it to be fairly small under 20 lbs but the smaller probably the better. No fenced in yard, but I do have about 6 acres. I have raised a litter of Shelties which are the easiest to train and also trained my Papillon with a short attention span! Also please dont say depends on the dog, I know that.
I was considering these breeds-
Affenpinscher
Cairn Terrier (but r they ok w/ cats? I heard not)
Coton de Tulear
Italian Greyhound
Miniture Pinscher
Norfolk Terrier
Norwich Terrier
Silky Terrier aka Australian Silky Terrier
Toy Fox Terrier
Rat Terrier (the smaller type)
Toy American Eskimo
& Podengo Portugueso Pequeno or Portuguesse Hound, but these are pretty rare
I would also luv to hear about other breeds too!
My Italian Greyhound Will Not Stop Peeing In My Boyfriends Bed! Help Me?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Hi,
I have a three year old italian greyhound. He has always been notoriously resistant to house training despite the efforts of absolutely everyone I know pitching in to help.
Recently I moved into a house with my boyfriend. He has his own room (for sanity’s sake), and we spend almost equal amount of time sleeping in his room and my room. The dog sleeps with us in the room in a doggie bed.
Now, NORMALLY, he’s ok as far as accidents in the house go as long as we keep an eye on him. At night, we make sure he’s peed and bundle him up in his bed and he wont get up until morning when we let him out. When we sleep in my room, he crawls up into the bed in the morning when we wake up and snuggles.
When we sleep in HIS room, however, he crawls up in the bed in the morning and pees all over us. Today he peed while I was holding him and after we punished him he peed again on his futon.
This is, understandably, very stressful. Any insight here? Advice?
Thanks in advance!

How Can I Get My Mom (and Boyfriend) To Let Me Help Foster A Dog?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Okay, so I am fourteen and I’ve been studying different breeds of dogs for eight years, and different methods of training. Currently, I have a one and a half year old Italian Greyhound female named Maxine who knows much more then basic obedience and agility and I’ve been wanting to help foster a dog for a few months since I got my great dog. But I asked about this even before I got her. However, my Mom and the boyfriend she has that has lived with us for five years (The reason I never got a dog until now) do not want me to foster a dog, and they say it’s because we have a small house and a small yard. But I know that like I did with Maxine I can train the foster dog to ride next to the bike as we ride around the neighborhood and I can help their chance of adoption by placing posters and training them obedience tricks. So, how can I get my Mom and her boyfriend Jim to say yes to letting me take care of a foster dog until adoptions? Haven’t I proved myself enough?
