Bought Kennel Dogs Who Never Been Outside, Now They Freeze And Won’t Go To The Bathroom- Only In Their Bed!

Today I went bought 2 Italian Greyhounds. I love them to death already, but I’m having trouble. They won’t pee or poop outside. They’ve never been outside! Unfortunately they’re kennel dogs and never been outside. I was under the impression they were house dogs just being raised sometimes in a kennel. I guess not- they were in there all the time, They did their bathroom stuff in there. I guess it’s a HUGE kennel and there were a few puppies in there. They’re timid, but very eager to receive love. We live in MN and it’s cold and I can see the pads of their feet are freezing. We stay outside about 7 min. and I put them back in the kennel, take them out again after 15 minutes, but they WILL poop inside the kennel anyway. They have no idea why we’re outside. I’ve taken them seperatly and together. They stand there and cry holding up 1 foot. I have patience, but I’m nervous, kennel/petstore dogs I hear are HARD to train. Any suggestions?

I just got two Italian Greyhound pups who are 3 months old. I didn’t know this before, but I’m pretty sure they’re from a puppy mill. I’m looking into it. They were raised in a kennel from birth, have never been outside and never even been able to run around on the floor. Everything is all new to them. I’m trying so hard to be patient. I won’t bring them back to that place, so I’m really trying to work with them. They’re well behaved , very loving, sweet, but the one thing that is their downfall- they won’t pee or poop outside! I do the thing where I’ll keep them kenneled, take them out, if they don’t go, I bring them in, kennel them, take them out again in 15 minutes or so. Most dogs won’t pee where they sleep… these WILL. THey stink and their kennel stinks. I feel like crying! My kids and I are very attached to them, but I have a 2 year old who’s always walking on the floor. They just don’t get it when we’re outside. It’s freezing MN here, so they just sit and shake and cry. Help!

I have a 2yr greyhound mix. She is trained to go to the bathroom outside but when it is raining she refuses. She won’t even go down the hallway to the back door. At first I tried standing out in the rain and acting like I wanted to play with her, she wouldn’t come out. Then I tried pulling her outside and she runs right back in. She just won’t go. She act as though the rain is poison. It is only really a problem when it is raining all day. She has gone 12 hours before without going. When it get to about 8 hours I put her on a leash and just make her stay out side with me. This really sucks because sometimes it still takes about 15 min. before she realizes that I’m not taking her back in until she goes and the whole time I am getting rained on. Sometimes she just won’t go.

I have a dog we got a couple years ago at the pound. She appears to be a greyhound mix. Very energetic. Likes to stand on her hind legs and give bear hugs. I bring her in and put her in a crate when it’s cold but have never let her run around the house. She’s just so rambunctious. It’s not the potty training that concerns me as much as the fact that I have cats and don’t want her to torture them and I don’t want her to get on the furniture. Will it be impossible to teach her that she’s not allowed on the furniture when the cats are allowed? Any tips are welcome. Thanks.

My dog(greyhound/dober mix) is good listener inside, but outside is too distracted to listen to simple commands. Inside he will 100% percent always sits when i tell him to sit, but outside it take 5 or 6 times.
Also, when i call his name inside he always looks. Outside, he rarely looks when i say his name. Im trying to train him to not use a leash because my lawn is fairly large. Ive tried playing with him outside, but he still gets distracted too often to make any progress.
