Don’t worry, we’ll either be getting it from www.petfinder.com or a breed rescue. I already have a German Shepherd & a Greyhound at my mom’s…I want something that is/are:
-Protective of me
-Very loyal
-Medium in size(not over 80 pounds)
-Easily trained, obedient
-Short to medium length coat
-Likes to go for long walks
-Good with little kids
-Reserved. Isn’t overly friendly when meeting new people.
No “designer” mixes, please. I’d like a breed or mix that I’ve never owned before so please no Greyhounds or Shepherds. I will be taking sole responsibility of this dog/puppy.
Thanks!!(:

My Dog Keeps Pooping And Peeing My Apartment, What Should I Do?

Me and my boyfriend really need help with our 7 month old Italian Greyhound. She keeps pooping and peeing in our apartment. We try to take her out 3-4 times a day and it’s hard because we have lives and can’t be home 24/7. We both work so it’s really hard for us to take her out ever 3 hours. We’ve tried puppy training pads, but she refuses to go on it. She wont tell us or hint us when she has to go. She just goes when and where ever she feels like it. When we do take her outside sometimes she doesn’t go on the grass but on the sidewalk. I’m desperate! My boyfriend wants to give her up for adoption if her habit doesn’t change! HELP!!!

Is This The Wrong Reason To Get A Dog And If It’s Not What Breed Should I Get?

Well I’ve been planning on owning two Cavaliers for when I become a grown adult, and I just realized that I might not be to safe! I don’t know exactly when I’ll be getting married, and a single woman is a pretty vulnerable target, if you know what I mean. So, I’ve been thinking I want to rescue one of these breeds:
Greyhound- I’d love to rescue one from a Greyhound Racing Rescue place, they’re so elegant. My one question though is how old do you expect to get these dogs if you rescue them from there?
Rottweiler- I’ve always loved this breed, and I really want to rescue one. My main question for this breed though is training available through obedience classes for this dog?
Brittany- I also want to rescue a Brittany, and my question for this breed is if it’s even a good guard dog?
So please take the time to answer the questions above and also answer if I’m getting a larger dog for the right reasons. I’d love this dog to death, don’t get me wrong. And have any other breed suggestions?
Thanks!

Should I Get A Italian Greyhound And Will My Toy Poodle Be To Much For It ?

I have been wanting to get another dog for the longest time. And i have always loved the poodle and IG(italian greyhound) I reseached the poodle majorly before i got my dog. Since i want a IG i have been researching them and they sound like they are very fragile, is that true. And my toy poodle is a fiesty when he plays. Some dogs even bigger than him dont like him because he doesnt understand that he has to stop. But i was thinking my dog loves to be chased and italian greyhounds love to chase. So wouldnt that work out? Also the italian greyhound could run and escape from my dog and not get as tired as my dog would.
So is getting a IG when i already have a 11lb toy poodle smart?
Do IG make good hypoallergenic dogs? (my definition is they go well with people with allergies)
Are IG very fragile?
Do they like water?
Is it better to get one as a puppy or adult?
Shelter or breeder? (which one will the dog be better behavied and more importantly potty trained)
Anything these really important i should know?

Should I Get An Italian Greyhound?

My wife wants a dog. I only will get a dog if it doesn’t bark much, doesn’t drool, doesn’t stink, and isn’t hyper. Also, I don’t want a dog that sheds a lot. After some initial research, I found out about Italian Greyhounds. Would this dog be a good fit? Both of us work, but she has most of the summer off, so she could do some initial training during the summer, but other than that it would be normal 9 – 5 for both of us (and we don’t have kids). Or, should we stick with hamsters and fish?

Should I Be Worried About My Greyhound Barking At My Cat?

We adopted a retired greyhound about one month ago – he is gorgeous and very well behaved. We also have a cat, so are in the process of training the dog to get along with the cat (the rescue classed him as cat friendly, but obviously he still needs a little practice).
He has been doing very well. The 2 are kept separate by a dog gate and the dog is muzzled when the cat walks through to go upstairs (the cat has no interest in being close to the dog and still hisses and growls when the dog is close). With supervision he stays calm and relaxed and makes no move towards the cat.
He has been fine looking at the cat calmly through the gate too – the last couple of days though he keeps going to look at the cat through the gate and ends up barking at him (just once or twice) but he is wagging his tail as well.
The cat just seems to be sat there looking snooty (turned away slightly)
Should I be worried? (does he think he has just seen his tea? or does he think it is a friend?

Thinking About Gettin A Italian Greyhound But Should I Train It To Use A Pee Pad?

So i have been researching majorly what breed of dog should i get. I already have a 1yr old rescued toy poodle that we got as a puppy. And the breed that sounds like it would fit me well also that i love is the italian greyhound. But they dont like cold weather. I live in upper IL and it is nice and warm in the summer and spring and even fall sometimes, but sometimes ( not to often but often enough) it can get below zero during the harsh winters. My poodle (who has only every had 3 accidents and 2 times were my fault and we got him a a 8week old puppy not potty trained) he even refused to go out one day and he had a fluffy coat and a jacket. But i am not going to unteach him how to use a bell to tell us when he has to go outside just to teach him to use a pee pad. But if i am thinking about rescuing a puppy italian greyhound should i train that dog to go on the pee pad or would that confuse my dog then he would start going inside where ever. I would fore sure buy jackets for the IG just as i did for my dog. But will that be enough.
Also since my dog is a male (dont worry he is neutered) should i get a female IG.

Can You Help With Litter Box Training My 1-year-old Dog? Should I Be Concerned About Cats?

I have a 13 month old Italian Greyhound who is very good at going outside for toileting, but I may be moving to a small apartment and I am considering box training him for convenience and his comfort during possible longer hours and cold weather. When he was a puppy he used puppy pads, but his best buddy always tore them up (and he could have been involved too, but I am not sure). I am aware that if my dog eats litter he can become very ill – and I would like to avoid that. Are there any other suggested materials (I have thought of wood shavings or cedar chips, but have to reference of whether it would work and possible ill effects or such) besides paper, puppy pads, and litter that I could use? Also, if he were to live with cats while being box trained, how would you suggest I teach him the difference between the boxes? Is it possible to put them in the same room wihtout any conflict?
Thanks!
