Would They Get Along Or Would They Fight?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
A few months ago we took a greyhound (4 years old, also a retired racer) from a rescue centre. He was very timid and scared of almost anything when we first took him home, especially of men – which led us to believe he was probably abused when in training. Now, he’s as bubbly as ever and probably is too happy now :p (however still scared of loud/sudden noises, or anything that would seem big and scary, but you would assume that’s normal for any dog). Although, he was very vicious towards any small animals and smaller dogs, actually killing 2 local pet cats and barking at smaller dogs. His behaviour is getting better towards smaller dogs though and doesn’t attack/dark at them any more, but still is quite intruiged by them.
We were thinking of getting another rescue dog, but a mut this time. They’re such fun dogs and I have heard that they can make great pets. My only concern is that would our current greyhound and a mut get along well?

Ironically I’m Concerned About A Dog’s Welfare, What Would You Do?

(Again, a lot of questions on this issue for me)
My sister (who lives with me) seems to have little concern for her dog.
He’s a greyhound x lab and they NEVER walk him, he RARELY goes to a park, he doesn’t go out in the yard much anymore as he barks at everything that moves including airplanes. He bit me tonight and my two dogs tried to kill him (he was pinned to the floor with blood pooling out of his head and face). Afterwards here was a gash in his head where I think I saw his skull, his tongue was bleeding, his ear is torn…. I called and called and she wouldn’t come home to take care of him. THEN seemed to think he was fine as I’d dumped a whack of quick stop on it to stop it from bleeding and being infected.
He’s not trained, he’s rarely played with and he doesn’t listen well.
I’ve tried to tell her the problems to no avail. “…. take care of your dog” “your dog is dominant” “walk your dog”….
As an animal lover, what would you do to make her listen and be a good owner?
Why Would My Dog Do This??

My dog just got in from her evening walk, all things seemingly normal. She then came into the livingroom and peed right in the middle of a rug. She is 2 years old and an italian greyhound. I thought she knew better than this ,especially since she had just been out. there have been no strange animals in the house and nothing odd happened today. What would cause a fixed female dog who is house trained to do this? She does this about every other month-Could she just be not very smart?

Why Would My Dog Do This?!?

Chocolate lab/greyhound mix– really beautiful dog. 11 months old. House trained. Hasn’t had an accident in over 3 months, and that was a random, one time occurrence.
Yesterday, she ran with my husband (while he was mountain biking) for an hour, then she was exhausted & well behaved the rest of the day. She had obedience class yesterday from 5-6. Then at 7:15 we had some friends over for dinner. We took her out to use the bathroom at about 6:45. Then my husband & I were running around frantically trying to straighten up the house. We put her in her crate soon after our friends came because she seemed a little skittish. After they left, I was going to bed and there was a huge, cold urine stain right in the center of my white bed spread.
Why the sudden lapse in house-breaking? She’d been an angel all day & we’d given her adequate opportunities to use the bathroom.
Medium Size Sporty Dog Breeds That Would Suit A Small House?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I’m a long way away from getting a dog but I’m thinking about it in the future. I’m moving to a flat (apartment), it is two level but still pretty small. I’m not really keen on small foo foo dogs or terriers, other half doesnt like greyhound-type dogs or lab/golden retrievers. Have lived with springer and cocker spaniels all my life, adore them but would like to try a different breed if possible. Cross breeds are fine too, I plan to check out the local shelters. Basically I would like a dog thats up to medium size, easy to train, that I can do agility with and exercise 1 and a half to 2 hours a day. I love collies, but dont think its really fair to keep them in a flat. Also like Duck Tollers, but not sure if they would settle in a flat…basically I need a dog that, although it is active, will be reasonably calm around the house, and not bark loads (afraid of annoying neighbours).
I’m very demanding aren’t I?
Would A Greyhound Be A Good Option For Me?

I would love to adopt a ex racing greyhound since I am so against the sport, and I think they are beautiful dogs. I have previously owned two small breed dogs, live in a small house but would take it on two long walks or runs per day plus games like fetch.. does anyone here have experience with them? Are they smart, easy to train dogs? Ok with cats? If not I will adopt a mix from the shelter
